We offer a wide array of structural evaluations. We utilize sound engineering judgment based on our education, experience, wisdom, and ethics along with the most current guidelines and white papers available to the industry.
An example of a guideline we reference for residential foundations is The Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) adopted guidelines titled "Guidelines for the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundation".
Types of Structural Condition Assessments Provided:
- Residential Foundation
- Residential Superstructure
- Commercial Foundation
- Commercial Structural Frame
Texas has large areas with highly expansive clayey soils that shrink and swell when the moisture content of the soil decreases or increases, respectively. The vast majority of residential foundations in Texas are designed as a "floating slab". A floating slab is a foundation that is designed with the knowledge that the foundation will move with the soil akin to a raft floating upon the water. If the soil movement is large or not uniform across the foundation, this shrinking and swelling may cause adverse affects to the structure. In a structural foundation assessment, Dudley Engineering will assess the foundations performance by observing structural and cosmetic distress and will provide opinions of probable causes of distress and risk of further damage. All of our assessment are followed up by an assessment report complete with photo documentation.
Dudley Engineering also utilizes specialty equipment such as the ZipLevel Pro-2000 High Precision Altimeter that can record elevations variation across a foundation or structure with an accuracy of 0.01".
